The Internet and other Addictions. Unit 1.

 Internet Addiction Disorder  (IAD)

Internet Addiction Disorder ( IAD), this is the term used  to refer to the excessive computer use that interferes with daily life. Honestly speaking, I have never thought that there was an actual medical disorder that had to do with being addicted to the internet, until we started this first unit and I heard about it. Nevertheless, I must confess that I´ve been aware of the fact that there are many people who cannot live without using the internet every single day at every single moment. For example, I have a coworker who  rather stop eating her lunch instead of  leaving her cellphone for a minute, or have a real conversation with us, she chats instead. This is a very good example of how internet  and technology are changing people´s life, but not in a very positive sense, because cellphones, computers, tablets are replacing the personal relations and the face to face conversation. Besides that, we need to take into consideration that the lack of personal interaction, caused of the computer overuse, makes the internet addict shyer and shyer.
