A person who lives more than one hundred years is called centenarian. Old age is considered as a period of declination, flexibility and lack of mental ability. It is a time of loneliness where the elder needs the care and affection of those who love him/her.

Old age presents changes that limit the mobility of elders. Sometimes old age doesn’t necessarily mean limit of mobility, there are a lot of elders who in spite of their age keep a very mobile and active life.

The United States currently has the greatest number of centenarians in the world. Japan has the second largest number of centenarians.

I have living testimony of a 107 years old lady who recently passed away in my neighborhood. She was very active and vigorous. Everyone in the community complimented her. It was normal to see her cleaning her house, moaning the yard, visiting neighbors and going to cultural feasts in the village.

She had a happy and long life. People attribute her longevity to her good eating habits, patience and hard work.

The Bold and Bashful

To be bashful is synonym of being timid, timid means to be reserved, not being able to feel comfortable in social situations or in a group of people who are not well known.

Timid people do not develop themselves; they find it difficult to move into new situations and experiences. They have an attitude of fear, loneliness and low self-esteem; sometimes they behave as if they were inferiors to someone else.

Being shy in a society is a disadvantage. It doesn’t let the person to be positive, sociable and open. It is a problem that needs to be overcome.

Here a few tips to overcome shyness:

1. Be your own best

2. Leave comparisons behind

3. Learn to like yourself

4. Releasing Anxiety through Breath

5. Visualization

6. Do not leave uncomfortable situations

7. Accept Rejection

8. Focus on the moment

Drinking Water

Water is the most wide spread source distributed on nature. The water used for human consume is called potable, which contains dissolve air and not prejudicial salts. However, the water with an excessive quantity of salts such as high chlorine, sodium sulfate, calcium and carbon, is known as heavy water.

Heavy water can be permanent and temporal. Temporal water contains carbon and bicarbonates. It can be eliminated by boiling. Permanent water is produced by sulfates and chlorine,it is eliminated through chemical methods.

Water can contain a lot of pollutants depending on its origins, example, water taken from rivers contain bacteria and chemical substances that should be purified before human use.

Dominican water suppliers are not as good as they should be. We are supposed to have a better water system but don’t have it. We have natural springs where water comes from but we don’t get water from them. We have to buy bottle water or water purifiers to be able to obtain a good drinking water.

this is about feng shui

Feng shui today

Today, feng shui is practiced not only by the Chinese, but also by Westerners. However, with the passage of time and feng shui's popularization in the West, much of the knowledge behind it has been lost in translation, not paid proper attention to, frowned upon, or scorned.
Robert T. Carroll sums up what feng shui has become in some cases:
"... feng shui has become an aspect of interior decorating in the Western world and alleged masters of feng shui now hire themselves out for hefty sums to tell people such as Donald Trump which way his doors and other things should hang. Feng shui has also become another New Age "energy" scam with arrays of metaphysical products ... offered for sale to help you improve your health, maximize your potential, and guarantee fulfillment of some fortune cookie philosophy.
Others have noted how, when feng shui is not applied properly, or rather, without common sense, it can even harm the environment, such as was the case of people planting "lucky bamboo" in ecosystems that could not handle them. Still others are simply skeptical.
Nevertheless, even modern feng shui is not always looked at as a superstitious scam. Many people  believe it is important and very helpful in living a prosperous and healthy life either avoiding or blocking negative energies that might otherwise have bad effects. Many of the higher-level forms of feng shui are not so easily practiced without either connections, or a certain amount of wealth because the hiring of an expert, the great altering of architecture or design, and the moving from place to place that is sometimes necessary requires a lot of money. Because of this, some people of the lower classes lose faith in feng shui, saying that it is only a game for the wealthy. Others, however, practice less expensive forms of Feng Shui, including hanging special (but cheap) mirrors, forks, or woks in doorways to deflect negative energy.
Even today feng shui is so important to some people that they use it for healing purposes, separate from western medical practice, in addition to using it to guide their businesses and create a peaceful atmosphere in their homes. In 2005, even Disney acknowledged feng shui as an important part of Chinese culture by shifting the main gate to Hong Kong Disneyland by twelve degrees in their building plans, among many other actions suggested by the master planner of architecture and design at Walt Disney Imagineering, Wing Chao, in an effort to incorporate local culture into the theme park.
The practice of Feng Shui is diverse and multi-faceted. There are many different schools and perspectives. The International Feng Shui Guild (IFSG) is a non-profit professional organization that presents the full diversity of Feng Shui.
One of the best known Feng Shui users is real estate mogul Donald Trump. After losing Asian clients a few years ago due to his properties' apparently bad Feng Shui, he hired a Feng Shui master to analyze the auspiciousness of Trump Towers.
At Singapore Polytechnic and other institutions like the New York College of Health Professions, many students (including engineers and take courses on feng shui every year and go on to become feng shui consultants

What Is Shyness?
Lots of kids and adults are shy. Maybe you are one of them.
Shyness means to feel a little scared when you're around other people. Just about everybody feels shy sometimes. If you're the new kid in class or your Aunt Betty wants to give you a big hug, it can make you feel shy.
Nobody sits around and says, "Well, I think I'll be shy today." It is just something that happens. It can just sneak up on you. You might feel fine practicing your soccer kicks, but then feel nervous when the coach comes over to give you a few pointers.
But being shy isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's OK if it takes you a while to feel comfortable with new people and new situations. In fact, it can even be helpful to be a little shy. When you're shy, you may spend a little extra time observing the scene before jumping right into it. What Causes Shyness?
Even if you weren't shy as a little kid, it's still possible to be a shy person. You might have learned to be shy because of experiences you've had at school or home. And sometimes you only feel shy for a short while, like the first time you get on a new school bus. This type of shyness often goes away after you get adjusted. For instance, after a few days, you'll probably have a seat you like to sit in and you'll get to know friends on the bus.
Can Shyness Be Serious?
Sometimes, people become so shy they are afraid to do simple things in life. For example, they won't go to a restaurant because they're too nervous to order and pay for their food. Some people are so shy about meeting new people that they rarely go outside. If you still feel really shy, your mom or dad might take you to see a psychologist, who can help you figure out how to feel more at ease around people.
If you know someone who's shy, try to help the person feel less nervous. It will help your friend to understand that everyone feels shy sometimes, even you!

IT IS THE WATER THAT WE DRINK PURE?

Dominican Republic is a beautiful place but with deficiency in water, caused for different reasons:

Maintenance is not sufficient in the systems purification.
Low maintenance of treatment plants.
They dont have qualified personal for the area of supervision.
They dont have chlorination systems.

In the same way, the water depend of all members of the population because if you throw solid waste in a river you are part of the problem.

create a clear conscience is also part of the solution for a pure water.

tap water

Drinking water is a fundamental resource for human development all over the world. Is a shame that in our country the quality of this is pretty bad. We cannot drink it, and if we do it, we could get sick. Our water, far from being pure is contaminated so is imposible to drink water from the faucet.
Water is one of the most important things we need, without water we cannot survive, so is neccessary to pay attention to the quality of water that we have.

TOAST TO THE TAP

Water: the most important liquid for human life.
In our country as in many others countries of Latin America; tap water is not drinkable, Authorities in charge don't pay any attention in the quality of tap water.
When I was a child in my house as in the complete neighborhood we used to drink tap water and we didn't get sick, but in these days is impossible to drink tap water without getting dangerous bacteria that could cause you death.
We shouldn't buy water from those little trucks that sell it on the streets because we don't really know if it is really purified.
Carbon filter are special devices used in develop cities to remove impurities from water.
my opinion: Water treatment plants are the best solution for our tap water problems, but they are so expensive that authorities don't even think of buying at least one.
We must fight  and demand  the authorities a service with the quality that we deserve.

THE  BOLD AND THE BASHFUL

IT's normal when you are a child that you act in a timid and reserved way, most of us think this way, but these behaviors are changing, most of the children in these days are very bold and outgoing.
We might consider that those acts are because of the globalization, many children have accees to information at a very early age.
Social factors and technological environment gives the people self confidence
shyness was a conduct from the pass this new generation is more open, outgoing and positive than the past generations!!!
The way you were raised as a child is very important and determinant to forge a good character.
When you are a sociable positive person things are easier to you, you see life from another point of view, problems are easier to solve.
Pollyanna people always look on the bright side, if we have low self esteem everything goes wrong, so from  now and on make a change in your life, be positive and you'll see how things start to get better.

shyness

Good morning.

Shyness is a topic that most of the people in the age of adolescence are suffering.

In this age feel insecure and lack of decision. I believe that I have been one of the both affected by this evil.

I am someone very shy to express myself in public. I have always lived surrounded by people to the me around.

My parents are people with a great presence on stage with very good rule in the scenic. My mother is pastor of the Church, my father is a politician.

As always you can see I am among many people.

I am working on these issues that find it me cumbersome.

Time also I am having trouble to organize some ideas.

Shyness is a problem I'm trying to overcome. Not only that if not organize much of the ideas.

Thank you

FENG SHUI

Before reading unit 5, about Feng Shui, I didn't know anything about it. However, I have noticed that when my house is clean and well organized I feel comfortable and I'm in a good mood, on the other hand, when it is disorgnized and dirty I feel uncomfortable and agitated. After reading unit 5, I became interested in arranging my house according to Feng Shui to have a more comfortable enviroment to live. Consequently, I will read some extra information on the web about Feng Shui to arrange my house in a better way. One of the rooms that I urgently need to arrange is my bedroom because in my bedroom I have a mirror in front of my bed and according to Feng Shui it is not proper to see my face as soon as I get up. Finally, I'm not an expert of Feng Shui but I think that it really works as I read in unit 5.

My humble opinion about Feng Shui

Feng Shui is an eastern custom with principles in the Chi (breath of life). It looks for harmonize the life and its environment in a group of superstitions and rules dictaded by an expert in the field. I really agree with the Feng Shui argument that believes in the position of the wind ant the sun to build a house and also that the environment of the house is directly related to the our lives, but what I don't agree with is the fung shui principle related to the spirituality. In my opinion Feng Shui is a superstition, nothing more, nothing less.

Water

Nowdays it may sound strange to talk about "drinking water from the faucet" but around ten years ago, most people in DR used to drink water directly from the tap. I remember that only wealthy people used to drink bottled water. But currently that is no longer possible, nobody in healthy mental condition drinks that water. Why? The reason is clear, obvious, you can get easily sick with any bacteria.

Feng Shui

Something more about feng shui.

Feng shui could be a practice, art, theory, tecnic or whatever is really interesting.
Feng shui based in the feeling this comfort or unhappiness could be synonim of luck. Is evident that because of feng shui some people move their lives for example today feng shui has become an aspect of decorating as important people in the world. So i understand if your place is nice good and comfortable your lives is just like that.

In many cases i disagree with feng shui becauses people shouldn`t take it so seriously.

Policy and Politics Collide as Obama Enters Campaign Mode

Nick Ut/Associated Press
Smog covering downtown Los Angeles. The Obama administration has delayed two major clean air rules as the White House sharpens its focus on the president's re-election.

WASHINGTON — The summons from the president came without warning the Thursday before Labor Day. As she was driven the four blocks to the White House, Lisa P. Jackson, the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, suspected that the news would not be good. What she did not see coming was a rare public rebuke the president was about to deliver by rejecting her proposal to tighten the national standard for smog.
The White House announced the decision the next morning, infuriating environmental and public health advocates. They called it a bald surrender to business pressure, an act of political pandering and, most galling, a cold-blooded betrayal of a loyal constituency.
“This was the worst thing a Democratic president had ever done on our issues,” said Gene Karpinski, president of the League of Conservation Voters. “Period.”
Industry groups and their Republican allies praised the move, which leaves a far more lenient ozone rule in place for at least a year. But then they reeled off a dozen other proposed environmental, labor and health regulations they also wanted killed.
In the weeks since that decision, the administration has made a number of other environmental decisions, sending mixed messages that left both environmentalists and industry lobbyists perplexed. Two major clean air rules have been delayed, at least temporarily. The Interior Department announced a significant expansion of offshore drilling in the Arctic and the Gulf of Mexico over the next five years. Last week, the administration bowed to pressure from protesters, green groups and residents and officials in Nebraska in announcing that it would delay a decision on the bitterly contested Keystone XL oil pipeline until after the 2012 election. Taken together, the moves mark the White House’s growing awareness of the costs of environmental regulation in a battered economy.
But the full retreat on the smog standard was the first and most important environmental decision of the presidential campaign season that is now fully under way. This examination of that decision, based on interviews with lobbyists on both sides, former officials and policy makers at the upper reaches of the White House and the E.P.A., illustrates the new calculus on political and policy shifts as the White House sharpens its focus on the president’s re-election.
The decision pitted Ms. Jackson, a Princeton-trained chemical engineer and self-described “New Orleans girl,” against the White House chief of staff, William M. Daley, a son and brother of bare-knuckled Chicago mayors who was brought in to help repair relations with business and Congress. It also shows the clout of Cass R. Sunstein, the legal powerhouse who serves, mostly behind the scenes, as the president’s regulatory czar with the mission of keeping the costs of regulation under control. While Mr. Daley has recently given up some responsibilities at the White House, he remains the administration’s conduit for business interests. The ozone decision was jarring because it was wholly unexpected. Ms. Jackson considered resigning but soon abandoned the idea as a futile gesture.
Many of the president’s supporters remain unsettled, fearing that the ozone decision meant he was abandoning environmental issues. But White House officials cite two major vehicle emissions rules, the pipeline delay and the president’s stated promise to carry through on other clean air measures as evidence of the administration’s devotion to their causes.

How a Person Becomes Shy

How a Person Becomes Shy

For some people, shyness may be a genetic trait and for other people it might be a learned behavior. Since the late 1980s there has been some research that indicates genetic links for shyness in some people. Those different genetic links are currently being studied.

Other people might suffer from shyness because they feel awkward in certain situations. This may have developed because they were never taught how to act in those situations or because they suffered from harsh ridicule or an embarrassing incident in those types of situations in the past.

tap water.
in our country the tap water is a never-ending problems. here instead of worrying about if we take care of good quality if it leads. there are places where drinking water does not reach. an hour so that we may need to get worried.
usually in our country only the economic power comes the precious fluid, if stop saying that is one of the most economical service that has the Dominican state.
where I live for example, we pump a little water we do not need CAASD.

Our reality is we need an effective policy against this evil that affects us, with clear policy very clear.

Old Age

Old Age

In our country , old people do not have the necessary attention. They are treated like unimportant people, they can not get a job, some of them can not afford their medicines, food, clothes, etc.

Dominicans do not care about elders. For these reasons, elders face their new stage in a bad way, they get into a depression which get them down. Most of them prefer to be dead in step of living as a stone in the path.

Being elder in our society is not easy, day by day the rejection against old people is increasing and there are more people neglected by family, friends, spouse, etc. They are abandoned because dominicans think that being old is the worst.

Feng Shui

Feng shui is a chinese art or practice of positioning objects, especially buildings and furniture, based on a belief the things that have positive and negative effects. I was reading an article about Feng Shui and I remember a paragraph where said that a lot of people believe that there are many things that influence positive and negative effects such as colors, numbers, animal symbols, and five elements: earth, water, fire, metal and wood to produce balance and positive energy.

In my case for example, I like bright colors like red, green, orange, and yellow, because those colors make feel happy.
