The World of Cults

Is Americans’ Religious Freedom Under Threat?

All-American Muslim
Companies have pulled their ads from a TV show that portrays Muslims as benign. Religious groups may be required to offer insurance that covers drugs that can induce abortions. A federal judgerejected a ballot initiative on same-sex marriage partly because of its religious arguments. Are these just bubbles in the American melting pot, or signs that religious freedom is under threat?
Thomas Farr and Timothy Shah, of the Religious Freedom Project at Georgetown’s Berkley Center for Religion, Peace and World Affairs, organized this discussion.

THIS IS ABOUT SHYNESS

I guess thes origin of shyness is at least partially genetic. However, there is also evidence that the environment in which a person is raised can affect his or her shyness. This includes child abuse, particularly emotional abuse such as ridicule.

Natasha Bedingfield-a little too much,

I love this song, I hope you like it.

WARRIORS WITHOUT WEAPONS

It´s incredible how volunteers in the red cross risk their lives. They risk
themselves because of peace and because they like to help others. the organization
( red cross) is recognized all around the world and no one can deny the work that
it´s been doing throughout the times.

MONITORING

MONITORING (WORK PLACE PRIVACY)

I dont agree with some aspects of monitoring people at work. In the last years
monitoring has been implemented in the Dominican Republic as a consequence of
the number of foreigh companies investing in our country. Call centers
are good examples of this. Employees are monitored because they have to follow
every rule the company has but is that fair? noone is perfect, every one makes
mistakes and forgets stuff. However i agree with the aspect that monitoring is an
excellent way to prevent robbery and certain situations not favorable for companies.

Monitoring has also been implemented in private schools where parents pay a lot of
money for the education of their children. I hate the idea of teachers being monitored in classrooms and i dont think it helps when it comes to the behavior of the children nor the teacher, of course that´s my personal opinion.

Feng Shui superstition or art.

Feng shui is viewed in different ways like a superstition and like an art:

Superstition is from the point of view of people that do not belive in health energy, spiritually significant and in some theory that contained this practice.

Art is from the point of view to this people that belive in the beautiful and the power of the decoration and the armony in it. They think that if you decorate your house with this art you are going to have more peace, positive in your home.

My personal opinion about Feng Shui is that if you create an space with all the detail of this art, you are going to feel more relax and if you are in the job, you wants to be at home.

The Bold and The Bashful

Hello everybody let me tell you something that I used to be when I was 13 years old. I used to be extremely shy with everybody I met. I was too shy that I could not tell a girl that I was in love of her., and sometimes I did not tell her any word because  I was extremely quiet. I knew she wanted me to talk with her but I could not. I do not know why. Nowadays I still being shy because I do not talk very much with girls.

GARBAGE IN DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

hello teacher and guys i need to know ,what are your opinions   about garbage  in  DOMINICAN REPUBLIC.THIS TOPIC IS VERY IMPORTAN AND
INTERESTING .I THINK THAT GARBAJE IS A BIG  PROBLEN  ,BECAUSE IN THIS COUNTRY THERE ARE GARBAGE   IN THE  STREETS  THE PEOPLE DON``T RESPET .

MONEY  DOESN`T BRING HAPPINESS,BUT SHOPPING DOES

I LOVE MONEY EVERYBODY DOES.

AND YOUR

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC.ABUSED WOMEN`S SHELTER

THIS   COUNTRY  HAS FUCKED UP,BECAUSE   THERE ARE ALOT OF VIOLENCE.

Domestic violence in the Dominican Republic occurs at an alarming rate. For example, in 2005 there were 485 reported cases with 117 fatalities in Santo Domingo alone. In many cases women and children are forced to stay in abusive situations and lack the resources to leave. Thus, their physical and mental health is greatly affected.
Fundación Familia Sana, a non-profit organization, established the only known shelter for abused women in the Dominican Republic in 2001. Through the Secretary of State of Women, women and their children can now seek refuge at the shelter which is located in a small rural undisclosed town.
This study sought to understand the demographics of women who utilize the shelter's services and to determine the efficacy of the shelter in terms of the women's overall health. A multi-method approach, using both quantitative and qualitative research methods, was employed to complete this comprehensive assessment. The study focused on how domestic abuse has affected the women's physical and mental health and the overall impact of the services on their well-being. Results indicate that the shelter helped to provide immediate assistance to those that sought refuge. Women received primary health care and legal counseling while their children received educational services. However, there is a need for mental health and long term services that would greatly benefit the women. Overall, findings from this study have added to the understanding of domestic violence, an under-reported and understudied phenomenon in the Dominican Republic.

Learning Objectives:
  • Have a general understanding of domestic violence in the Dominican Republic.
  • Be able to identify key health issues of abused women in the Dominican Republic.
  • Understand health issues that are addressed and not addressed at the only abused women's shelter in the Dominican Republic.
Keywords: Women's Health, Violence

The bold and the bashful

Many people are different, personality, think in other point of view, and make a lot of things in very different way.
In this occasion I will talk about the bashful or shy people, some people like to talk a lot every time, and that person is like a talker person, who tell you everything that they live, when they did, how is his or her life’s, and don’t stop to talk about it.
At the book in the picture, we can see a three person one woman talking with a men, and one men covering with an umbrella, I can think in a simple view that the men who talk with the women in swimsuit in the pool is a bashful person, who like to talk and in other cases like to surprise people talking about anything he want.
The men who are covering with an umbrella, is more conservated men, and he looks like a really shy person who don`t want to talk or feel some strange in front of others and stay in the same place or maybe not move or talk to anybody or talk the necessary in front of all people.
I identify with a little bit of the two persons, in the drawing, because I think that we have to be talker in some cases that we feel to, and be quiet in other cases that we have to be, I think that is my personality and some people never looks you with good eyes if you are talker or not talker.

THE WORLD OF CULTS

Cults are eerie and carry weird practices which are not welcomed in the day to day routine of the average human being who lives a normal life. A cult can be extreme in nature with rituals that are beyond bizarre to say the least. The followers in certain cases have been known to pay the ultimate price by giving their lives for a belief fabricated by their charismatic ascetics and leaders. Here’s a list of some of the world’s most bizarre cults.

CULTS

In the dicionary the word cults is usually refers to a
group of people whose beliefs or practices are considered
abnormal.Through the years many people has been
attracted for groups of people which beliefs or practices
are considered bizarre. The problem is that many of those
people get attracted or inspired by the leaders of those
group.where they are forced or convinced to commit
any kind of crime. One of the most famous case of
murders that i remenber seeing in the history channel.
It is the manson family. And this is a typical case of cults.
where the leader charles manson was accused of various
crimes in which he was never present.Eventhough, he
was never present in those muders. Those murders were
committed by his followers.

FENG SHUI

How many of you know feng shui cames from chinese
civilization.According to many researchers.The ancient
chinese civilization is one of the world´s earliest.
the word feng shui appeared for the fisrt time in southern
china over 3,000 years ago.For many people, especially
for chinese people.Feng shui is a kind of force or energy
that we can´t see but that exist. That kind of force or
energy is called ch´i or ´´chee´´.According to many
expert in that area.Feng shui is an energy that can be
find in all things. For example, cars, books, rooms, people,
computers and plants. It is used in order to create good
luck and harmony.During the last 3,000 years.Feng shui
has spreaded in different country arroung the world. The
most important for my about feng shui.It is a system or
form of geomancy that try to bring us good luck to our lifes.

SHYNESS

Since the human being began to walk in this world.
Shyness has been a problem that affect millions of
arround the world every year. The word shyness
mean being introverted, or not talkative. In my
opinion this kind of people confront serious obstacle
in their lifes.Because the mayority of those people
are no open to new experiances, to meet new frinds,
to be able to do or say what they want.In the case of
our genre ´´male´´ we can find serious obstacle
at the moment we get interested for a girl.Because
if you a man and you are in love of a girl. But you
are a shy person . It is almost imposible for you
to conquer that girl if you can´t find the way to
express her your real feeling. In my case,i don´t
have that problem.Because since i was a child.I was
an extrovert person.

THE WORLD OF CULTS

A cult is a system (most of the time religious system) whose belief and practices are considered abnormal or bizarre.

I don't know why,but these cults are always talking about the end of the world, the final judgment, heaven or hell., What the should really talk is about love one to each other.

These types of cults are always looking for ''the truth'' !!! I don't know what do they call the truth?? The truth of what? About life ? Happiness ??
I know one thing : ''Life is just one.''
We must live as we want to, Do whatever we want to,whenever we want to (of course without causing hurt other people).

The leader of a cult most of  the time is a tricky and manipulative person,he use strategies to convince others to do what he wants.

LOST SOULS THE WORLD OF CULTS

There are many dangerous cults around the world, others are not dangerous. I think parents should know all the time what their sons are doing because they might be into a cult just because they like it but with no understanding of what it is about.

i was told that there was a cult in moca called (metalicos de la noche) at night they went to the cemetery to plan their rituals, kill animals and dig holes. but the craziest thing they did was to ask those people who wanted to be members to kill one of their relatives to be accepted in the group.

There was a guy who they asked to kill his mom in that moment he nodded his head saying ´´yes´´. when he got to his house he took a knife but he couldnt make a move. His mom didnt even notice what he was planning to do, she just saw him with the knife in his right hand.He left the house went far away and committed suicide, his corp was found some weeks later. He had all the information including pictures of the group on his computer and also he had written everything the group had asked him to do.

FENG SHUI

The idea of fung shui is amazing because if a person lives in a polluted environmment then that person lives an unquiet life.

when i buy my own house or apparment i am going to con

sider every little thing because i want to live relaxed. i dont want to feel stressed. so feng shui is very reasonable when buying a house or moving from one place to another.

This is a feng shui bedroom i looks astonishing and very organized.

TAP AND BOTTLED WATER

In the dominican republic we can not drink water coming from the faucet because it is not healthy. however people drink tap water, they boil water in a container, eventhough water is tasteless when it is boiled it tastes horrible. so i prefer to drink bottled water but i am careful when choosing a brand.

Many people in D.R get sick because they drink (agua de camionsito) and it is very contaminated but i personally think that the economical situation doesnt allow those people to buy another type of water. i think the government should help them by offering them good cheap water.
CENTENARIANS
I agree with the idea that people live 100 years or more because they eat healthy food. of course that it is not always bacause of the type of food people eat. I´ve met some dominican centenarians and they have told me, they have eaten everything in their lives. Something they do is to exercise, not to force themselves doing anything and staying calm all the time as much as possible that i´d call a relax life. One centenarian that i met some time ago told me that he had many sons and daughters about 25 for him it proves that he has always been healthy.

i want to live to see the professor atilano to become a centenarian, hehe.

CENTENARIANS PEOPLES

According to many researchers two thousand years ago.
life expectancy in some countries like egypt, irian, or turkey
was arround 30 or 35 years.During the second world war
was 49 between the countries who were involved in that war.
Nowadays more people are living longer. How many of you
know old age has been seen as a time of mental and physical
decline.Where the mayority of those people are retired from
their jobs. And they are living from their pensions. The word
pension mean, a sum of money that is paid to a retired person.
Unfortunately, in my country, dominican republic old people
are not being rewarded how they must be.For that reason
many of those people are force to continuing work after they
are 65 years.Because the money that the receive from the
dominican goverment is not enough for thy survive.
TAP WATER
How many of you know, there are 9 planets in our solar system
and only the earth contain water.According to many researchers
about 70 percent of the earth is covered by water.
without water human being, animals and plants wouldn´t exist.
everybody need it, for example, for drink it, for taking a shower
or cleaning the houses.Unfortunately, in my country dominican
republic tap water is not recomende for comsuming peoples.
for that reason, many of the dominican people are forced to buy
bottle water.Because they think it is healthier than tap water.
the other group of the dominican people that can´t buy bottle
water. They are forced to use tap water.Eventhough, it is not
recomendable for drink it.In addition, in some areas of our
country water is only available for several hours a day.

Friendly Cult Looking For Recruits at Occupy Wall Street!

the twelve tribes .jpg

Occupy Wall Street is almost two months old, but last night was the first time the Voicehad noticed an odd-looking brown bus parked on Liberty across from Zuccotti Park. It kind of looked like a huge '70s-style RV. A sign on the door read "Welcome. Please come in!"
We did as suggested and encountered The Twelve Tribes, to our knowledge the first cult (or cult-ish group, at least) that is making an attempt to recruit people at the protest.

Upon entering the cozy wood-paneled bus, an older couple presented the Voice with a plate of brownies. We took one. (No, it wasn't a pot brownie.) There were about a dozen people on the bus, which looked like someone's rec room mixed with Frodo's house. A man named Emmett with a headband and tattooed arms came and sat beside us on one of the soft cushy seats and handed us a cup of tea. (It wasn't mushroom tea.)

To Emmett's credit, he waited a full two minutes before handing us literature relating to The Twelve Tribes, a messianic group that traces its origins to early 1970s Tennessee. They live on communes all over the U.S. and Europe. If you've ever seen a Yellow Deli or a Common Ground Café, that's these guys.

12 tribes paper .jpg
Some Twelve Tribes informational lit.

"We do everything together," Emmett, 35, said. "We raise our children together. There's no self-interest, no leader. We're kind of like the Amish," he said, a comparison strengthened by the floor-length skirts and modest blouses the women were wearing.

The group of nine had driven all the way from Tennessee in the bus and were only in the city for a few days. They don't have an official stance on Occupy Wall Street, according to Emmett. Tonight they'll be at Madison Square Garden outside the Furthur show. Occupier James Molenda, 32, told the Voice that he recognized the Twelve Tribes from Phish shows he has been to; apparently hanging out at jam band concerts is part of their proselytizing M.O.

FENG SHUI

                                               FENG SHUI

Feng  Shui is an ancient art  developed in China. It teaches us how to balance the energies of any given space to assure good health and good fortune for people who live in that place.
I'm not pretty sure if feng  shui really works, I think that if you are in peace with yourself, with your conscience and if you believe in God things will work just fine.

I m skeptical, I just don't believe that if you feel sick all you have to do is place plants in every corner of the house and  miraculously you will feel better or if you paint the living Room of some specific color you will win the lottery, It just doesn't make any sense to me.
I believe that some people are destined to succeed; of course if you study, prepare, work hard and focus onwhat you want, you will get everything you propose to.
If Feng Shui were truth, there were no poorness (poverty), everybody were rich, there were not illness or disease.

Donald Trump says that he doesn't move a muscle without the advice of a Feng Shui expert, it has been very helpful for him, but there are Millions of people who don’t practice these arts and they are as healthy and rich as Donald trump, you just have to Work hard.

Selena Gomez for Celebrity Tap presented by UNICEF Tap Project

Believe it  or not  these are recomendations for  people from other countries about our water.

Do not drink tap water!

Locals, even in the most rural areas, will either boil their water or purchase bottled water. Eating salads or other food that may be washed in tap water is not advisable. Ice is a bad idea as well, except in luxury hotels and restaurants (which produce ice from bottled water). If you plan on cooking or washing dishes for longer stays, it is a good idea to rinse everything with bottled or boiled water before use.

Don't drink the water.

Drinking local water in the Dominican Republic is a health hazard since it doesn't go through the same purification process as water from outside the country. Anyone from outside the area wouldn't be accumtomed to it, and the water can make you very sick. Although the Dominicans are generally able to drink the water without getting sick, it still leads to longterm health problems for them; the life expectancy for someone in the Dominican is only 50-60 years! I was told that the water problem was one of the many factors in their short average life span.Even if you are staying in a resort, try to make a habit of brushing your teeth with bottled water (even if it is bought in the Dominican) and just be careful when you're showering and bathing that you don't accidently swallow any. Several people I know have come down here, and found themselves in bed for days because of stomach cramps.

Is it safe to drink the water in the Dominican Republic?

Drinking purified bottled water is definitely recommended and is available everywhere in the Dominican Republic. Hotels and restaurants use purified water to clean and cook their food, and purified water is used to make all ice. It is not recommended that you drink tap water. For those with a sensitive stomach, it is not recommended to even use tap water to brush your teeth. The different microbes in the water in the Dominican Republic, compared to ones found in the water supply in other countries, may affect some people adversely.

The best way to protect yourself is to avoid local tap water and instead seek out bottled water; when that's not available, boiling tap water generally kills most micro-organisms, and there are a number of good water filters and purification tablets that can easily be stowed in your carry-on.

How shy people can make friends fast

The Pleasure of Discovering Hidden Talent

When we elect such a positive view, lost of buried talent begins to surface. Elbert Hubbard said, "There is something that is much more scarce, something finer far, something rarer than ability. It is the ability  to recognize the ability." Average people have a way of accomplishing extraordinay things for teachers and leaders who are patient enough to wait until ability becomes to apparent.

The history books are full of  stories of gisted persons whose talents were overlooked by a procession of peolple until someone believed on them. Einstein was four year  old before he could speak and seven before he could read. Issac Newton did poorly in grade school. A newspaper editor fired Walt Disney because he had "no good ideas." Haydn gave up ever making a musician of Beethoven, who seem a slow and plodding youn man with no apparent talent, except a belief in music.

There is a lesson in such stories: different people develop at different rates, and the best motivators are always on the lookout for hidden capacities.

One chief executive officer, when asked, "What are you in business for?" replied, " I am in the business of growing people, people who are stronger, more autonomous, more self-reliant, more competent. We make and sell at a profit things that people want to buy so we can pay for all of this." It is not by accident that his employees, who probably would grumble about working eight hours a day for  more food and shelter, cheerfully work ten or twelve hours a day for a leader who keeps such as goals clearly befoore them.

Shyness: Evolutionary Tactic?

A BEAUTIFUL woman lowers her eyes demurely beneath a hat. In an earlier era, her gaze might have signaled a mysterious allure. But this is a 2003 advertisement for Zoloft, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (S.S.R.I.) approved by the F.D.A. to treat social anxiety disorder. “Is she just shy? Or is it Social Anxiety Disorder?” reads the caption, suggesting that the young woman is not alluring at all. She is sick.

But is she?

It is possible that the lovely young woman has a life-wrecking form of social anxiety. There are people too afraid of disapproval to venture out for a job interview, a date or even a meal in public. Despite the risk of serious side effects — nausea, loss of sex drive, seizures — drugs like Zoloft can be a godsend for this group.
But the ad’s insinuation aside, it’s also possible the young woman is “just shy,” or introverted — traits our society disfavors. One way we manifest this bias is by encouraging perfectly healthy shy people to see themselves as ill.
This does us all a grave disservice, because shyness and introversion — or more precisely, the careful, sensitive temperament from which both often spring — are not just normal. They are valuable. And they may be essential to the survival of our species.
Theoretically, shyness and social anxiety disorder are easily distinguishable. But a blurry line divides the two. Imagine that the woman in the ad enjoys a steady paycheck, a strong marriage and a small circle of close friends — a good life by most measures — except that she avoids a needed promotion because she’s nervous about leading meetings. She often criticizes herself for feeling too shy to speak up.
What do you think now? Is she ill, or does she simply need public-speaking training?
Before 1980, this would have seemed a strange question. Social anxiety disorder did not officially exist until it appeared in that year’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, the DSM-III, the psychiatrist’s bible of mental disorders, under the name “social phobia.” It was not widely known until the 1990s, when pharmaceutical companies received F.D.A. approval to treat social anxiety with S.S.R.I.’s and poured tens of millions of dollars into advertising its existence. The current version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, the DSM-IV, acknowledges that stage fright (and shyness in social situations) is common and not necessarily a sign of illness. But it also says that diagnosis is warranted when anxiety “interferes significantly” with work performance or if the sufferer shows “marked distress” about it. According to this definition, the answer to our question is clear: the young woman in the ad is indeed sick.
The DSM inevitably reflects cultural attitudes; it used to identify homosexuality as a disease, too. Though the DSM did not set out to pathologize shyness, it risks doing so, and has twice come close to identifying introversion as a disorder, too. (Shyness and introversion are not the same thing. Shy people fear negative judgment; introverts simply prefer quiet, minimally stimulating environments.)
But shyness and introversion share an undervalued status in a world that prizes extroversion. Children’s classroom desks are now often arranged in pods, because group participation supposedly leads to better learning; in one school I visited, a sign announcing “Rules for Group Work” included, “You can’t ask a teacher for help unless everyone in your group has the same question.” Many adults work for organizations that now assign work in teams, in offices without walls, for supervisors who value “people skills” above all. As a society, we prefer action to contemplation, risk-taking to heed-taking, certainty to doubt. Studies show that we rank fast and frequent talkers as more competent, likable and even smarter than slow ones. As the psychologists William Hart and Dolores Albarracin point out, phrases like “get active,” “get moving,” “do something” and similar calls to action surface repeatedly in recent books.
