Elderly People in Dominican Republic

In our country being an elderly means to e a person mistreated, abandoned and wasted in most of the cases. Our government does not provide good pension fund benefits, good health insurance for those people who had worked their whole lives in order to have a decent old age.

The government should bring a better support to old people. Everyday we see in the news many pensioners who have to buy medicines, food, go to the doctor and do not have money because the receive a misery through their allowances. It has become difficult to be an eldery in a country which life cost is growing day by day.

Another point is that in other countries elderly people are respected, but our society is passing by a critical period of disorder in which values have been lost and it is reflected in the way our elderlies are treated. People do not give them a seat in the buses, do not let them make an oppinion if they want, do not help them in their basic needs.

We are the new generation of people who can make things change. Let's make a big effort, starting with our parents and relatives, let's help them, let's make them feel important and productive. They just want to know there's someone by their side.

We can inspire others with our good actions. Elderly people are a huge source of knowledge and beautiful experiences. Let's finish with this inequality.

  2. Great Pamela!! Even though most of our centenarians´people do not have close family members and sometimes most of their friends use their allowance for surviving and do not provide their dignified or quality medical care and the eldest have to beg.
