Toast to the Tap: The Water We Drink.

Unit 4.

Tap water is the water that comes through pipes from the public water system.Drinking water or water for human consumption is the water that can be consumed without restrictions and it doesn't represent a risk for health due to a purification process.

The term refers to the water which fulfills with the standards of quality promulgated by the local and international authorities.

It must have the following conditions:

It should be clean, colorless, odorless and a nice flavor.
It should be aired, that's to say , it should contain air dissolved, otherwise it would be tasteless.
It shouldn't contain pathogenic germs capable of producing contagious diseases.
It should contain certain proportion of mineral salts (chlorides, sodium sulfates, calcium, potassium, etc).
It shouldn't contain nitrates or nitrites because these can come from the decomposition of organic substances.
