A person who lives more than one hundred years is called centenarian. Old age is considered as a period of declination, flexibility and lack of mental ability. It is a time of loneliness where the elder needs the care and affection of those who love him/her.

Old age presents changes that limit the mobility of elders. Sometimes old age doesn’t necessarily mean limit of mobility, there are a lot of elders who in spite of their age keep a very mobile and active life.

The United States currently has the greatest number of centenarians in the world. Japan has the second largest number of centenarians.

I have living testimony of a 107 years old lady who recently passed away in my neighborhood. She was very active and vigorous. Everyone in the community complimented her. It was normal to see her cleaning her house, moaning the yard, visiting neighbors and going to cultural feasts in the village.

She had a happy and long life. People attribute her longevity to her good eating habits, patience and hard work.
