Prefixes Meaning NOT

Prefixes: (affix) is a word, or letter (s) placed at the beginning of another word (a base word) to adjust or QUALITY its usage or meaning. The PREFIXES il-ir-im-in and un all mean NOT..


*When words beginning with L use the prefix il.
Example: Illiteracy = not Literacy.


*When words beginning with R use the prefix ir.
Example: Irrelevant = not Relevant.


*Some words beginning with M-P use the prefixe im.
Examples: Immoral = not Moral.
Impatient = not Patient.

*Most other words use in-un.
Examples: Inflammable = not Flammable.
Invaluable = not Valuable.
Uncosntitutional = not Constitutional.
Undelete = not Delete.
