What is an addiction?

A compulsive act which causes harm to the person. People fighting with an addiction are unable to control their behavior. One example of this is a person who constantly smokes to excess in spite of  the fact that it is hurting his or her life.
"Smokers smoke to stop feeling the way they do when they aren't smoking."

Another example: A person who is addicted to alcohol, while his or her peers are enjoying another sort of drink such as lemonade or orange juice  🍊 In a hot afternoon at the university after class... This person will feel the impulse to get an alcohol drink.

I think that's a shame to see those people involved in addictions.

As consequence of this they lose the control, they have low self-steem, and they frequency feel depression. Also addicted people lead serious problems at home, work, school, work, society.

Addiction is considered a mental illness and can be treated with therapy, medication and lifestyle changes.
