                             Battle of March 30





The Battle of Santiago (Battle of March 30), was the second major battle of the Dominican War of Independence and was fought on March 30, 1844, at Santiago De Los Caballeros, Santiago Province A force of some Dominican troops, a portion of the Army of The North, led by General José María Imbert, defeated an outnumbering force of troops of the Haitian Army led by General Jean-Louis Pierrot.

  2. According to some internte sites, After being defeated in the first post-independence struggle Dominican, Haitians again entered the newly created nation.
    Before starting the battle in Santiago, Dominican rallied to make preparations was to obtain money to purchase weapons. With the assistance of Ramon Matias Mella and Pedro de Mena managed donations of many wealthy of Santo Domingo and Santiago, Ciprian Mallol, Juan Luis Bido, Bido and other Dominican Ramon also joined the cause.
    Reinforcements began to arrive to Santiago from Bani under Colonel Ramon Santana. General Francisco Antonio Salcedo advanced to Talanquera and Escalante, in order to contain the Haitian military advance toward Santiago. This established his military headquarters in Escalante, near Guayubin Montecristi. Pierrot's troops advanced rapidly and it took Dajabón on March 23, 1844.
