Filtered Water or Tap Water: Which One Is Better?
In many world´s countries is a common matter (when is treated the topic of water) to talk about the level of pureness, salubrity, and consuming level of the water that is consumed. In other case, is a treated theme which one is better for drinking: tap water or filtered water. In the third way is discussed if the use of filters at home is better than the other two.
Let´s talk about it.
First of all I´ll describe the three kinds of water:
-Tap water is the water that you drink from the faucet
-Bottled water is the water you buy, packed or sold individually, in stores, supermarkets, etc.
-Water filtered at home is when you buy special filters to ´´clean and purify´´ the water at home using different kinds of filters that are sold in market specialized for such a thing.
In Dominican Republic, for example, we don´t consume tap water or water from natural sources because they keep high levels of impurities, bacteriums, and contamination. Instead, for example, we use to buy water in markets, ´´carritos de agua´´ or authorized water plants.
These last one are authorized by Salud Publica. But, in many cases, they are not well ruled or are monitored about the quality that water plants must have when they are handling or selling water. We would be drinking water from a well full of dangerous germs and bacteriums and not notice it until is so late (because we think we are drinking a ´´good, safe, and free-of-anything water´´.)
In those cases people use to buy water such as Dasani (Coca-Cola´s Company), Aquafina (Pepsi), Montpellier (AmBev-Cerveceria Nac. Dom), and more in the market.
The question is: they are better?. Answer: not as so.
In cases when the families can´t afford the cost of commercial bottled water and don´t want to take a risk with ´´carrito´s water´´, they use to boil the tap water and bottle it in containers for consuming.
In this way there´s no warranty that the water they have is free of contamination, and can contain heavy metals which can react to the heat and became the water in a very dangerous chemical poison.
So, what´s the option: the last one´s to buy filters.
Filters are an option for people to remove impurities, some bacteriums, heavy metals, odors, etc. Are well know as the way that many countries in the world use to purify water.
According to market prices, design, function, etc., they can cost a lot or being relatively cheaper than other purifying methods.
You would think ´´oh, yes! It´ll be the perfect way to drink water safely. You got me. Shut up and take my money!´´. But is not as so: In first world countries like Wales and Britain, filters aren´t necessary because the quality of water is good. Also, many of the honest filter´s sellers are involving their ads in the benefit of drinking water than in selling filters. Why? because they know that filters can not remove the nitrates and they just can change the flavor and eliminate many of the bacteriums, bad odors, etc., and drink bottled water is just a decision.
It´s also know that some bottled waters are filtered and they aren´t mineral water as ads say.
In the Dom. Rep. we don´t have that option (believe in government management of water) and we must to survive between doubtfull ´´carritos de agua´´, non-mineral water, and the use of filters.
Not matter the way you choose, you may keep in mind what is better or not for you and your family when you´re drinking water. But remember to take the best measures for drinking a good water everyday.
