TAP WATER.

TAP WATER IS THE WATER THAT COMES OUT OF A FAUCET IN A BUILDING SUCH AS A HOUSE OR A HOTEL.

TAP WATER IS THE PRINCIPAL COMPONENT OF "INDOOR PLUMBING" WHICH BECAME AVAILABLE IN URBAN AREAS OF THE DEVELOPED WORLD . DURING THE LAST QUATER OF THIS CENTURY. THE APPLICATION OF TECHNOLOGIES INVOLVED IN PROVIDED POTABLE AND CLEAN WATER TO HOMES, BUSINESSES AND PUBLIC BUIDINGS IS A MAJOR SUBFIELD OF SANITARY ENGEENIERING.

HOWEVER NOT ALWAYS TAP WATER IS SAFE, ESPECIALLY IN DOMINICAN REPUBLIC WHERE TAP WATER IS NO POTABLE. IF YOU WANT TO DRINK POTABLE WATER IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC YOU MUST BUY IT, BUT IN THE UNITED STATES YOU CAN DRINK WATER FROM THE FAUCET.

IN SPAIN, VISITORS TO THE COUNTRY WILL BE PLEASED TO KNOW THAT THE DRINKING WATER IS POTABLE IN MANY AREAS, ALTHOUGH MANY TRAVELLERS DO CHOOSE TO BUY BOTTLED WATER INSTEAD BECAUSE THEY ARE UNACCUSTOMED TO THE TASTE OR CONSTITUTION OF SPANISH WATER. IN BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA, MANY PEOPLE SAYS THAT THE TAP WATER IN BUENOS AIRES IS SAFE TO DRINK, TOO. BUT BOTTLED WATER IS CHEAP AND BETTER.

I WOULD LIKE THAT IN MY COUNTRY, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, CITIZENS MAY DRINK WATER FROM THE FAUCET WHICH WOULD BE A SIMPLE DREAM. SO, WE BUY POTABLE WATER FOREVER IN SANTO DOMINGO THAT IS SAFE FOR MY HEALTH.

EXTREME SHYNESS- HOW IT AFFECTS YOUR SELF-ESTEEM

Extreme shyness causes you to have difficulty making conversation and become very nervous when you feel you have to be congenial with strangers; you simply do not know what to say. As a direct result your self-esteem suffers badly.

Most shy people wouldn't choose this as a way of living their life; they'd prefer to be more outgoing, to be talkative and comfortable wherever they happen to be. Awkardness in the company of others is embarrassing makes you want to run and hide.

this is what drives the shy person into solitude. unlike the introvert who prefers their solitude, extreme shyness forces you into it.

I think that shy people with extreme shyness should search for professional help, because if they continue on this situations they wind up in a big sadness and lonely, without companions or friends.

THE PAINFUL SITUATION OF ELDERLY PEOPLE IN D. R.

When our English teacher introduced the topic about elderly people, I started to remember an expression from an old reading book: "Only in Sparta it is pleasant to grow old", an expression said by a foreigner when he witnessed the veneration of the youth toward old people. At once I began to reflect how it contrasted to the situation that we see in our country, and I would rather say that "it is a misfortune to grow old in Dominican Republic," where elderly people are wiewed as useless individuals by the government and the society. It is painful to hear that, but this is it. According to statistics, there are about 900,000 people over 65 years old in D.R., and more than 60% of them lack of jobs, pension and retirement plans; therefore, they are not included in the health insurance system . Besides, a number of them only receave a minimum pension which does not even cover the medecins they need. Because of this state of unprotection, 51% of elderly people have to live with some family member or relatives, and in the worst of cases, alone. Acording to the Confederación Nacional de Unidad Sindical (C.N.U.S.), over 15% of elderly workers have been waiting even eight years for the pension. Not only the government shows indolent and irresponsable to elderly people, but also the city Halls, which according to the law, they must invest 10% of their budgets. Indeed, the State is breaking the law 352-98 which protects the elderly people.  However, there are some intitutions and volunteers who are giving their helping hands to the elderly people, working hard with all kinds of limitations, since they rarely receave the support they need to do a better job.

Bold People

ADDICTION OR ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGICAL DEPENDENCY?

Addiction has been commonly viewed as physical and psychological dependence on psychoactive substances, such as, tobacco, alcohol, heroin and other drugs. Nowadays, however, the term addiction is sometimes applied to abnormal psychological dependency on non-subtance-related activities, such as, gambling, food, work, internet, sex, pornography, exercise, computers, video games, shopping, pain, cutting, idolizing, and spiritual obsession. Other terms to described such behaviors are:
  • Behavioral addiction
  • Process addiction
  • Non-subtance-related addiction, and
  • Soft addictions
"Soft addiction" is a term coined by Judith Wright to describe activities or behaviors which do not have grave risk or consecuence on health, rather, they have negative effects on personal time and productivity. It is estimated that about  90% of Americans have at least one form of  "soft addiction" in their lives. Nadine Kaslow, PhD professor of psychology and behavioral sciences at Emory University in Atlanta, has commented on an issue, saying that while it is healthy to relieve stress with behaviors like drinking coffee and watching TV, when they become habitual, they turn problematic to one's health and hapiness.
No agreement or consensus there has been so far as to the applicability  of the word "addiction"  to these conditions of human behaviors. In the case of pathological gambling, for instance, the American Psychological Association classifies the condition as an "impulsive control dissorder" and not an addiction.

Regardless of the term we use to describe such abnormal behaviors, I consider that they are a serious  social problem that psychologists, parents, teachers, and society in general, have to face.
