Envisioning ELT´s Future… ABLA´12 Dominican Republic
On November
16th and 17th, l had my first participation in the annual
conference for English teachers which took place at the Hotel el Embajador in
Santo Domingo, it was an unforgettable experience
where l learned interesting techniques that can help teachers in the classroom,
and what l liked most is that l was able
to understand almost everything. To heard listen different pronunciations and
meet native English people helped me to improve my vocabulary.
From the
expositors l took some notes that l want to share:
It is
really important to cultivate curiosity, creativity and in our students.
Success in the classroom depend less on
materials , techniques or linguistic analysis, and more on what goes on inside
and between the people in the classroom.
Cultivating
genuine and curiosity:
·
Set
judgment aside and observe, and guess!
·
Value
not knowing
·
Genuine
questions
Joy comes from a place deep within, it is
deeper and longer than happiness, for cultivating joy it is really
important to see and interact with
students first, before labeling them as students!, and to develop empathy for
ourselves and others, to create habits of gratitude.
Joy comes from success –learn to see and
celebrate small steps!!!
What you see and feel is what you remember!!!
Writing is something that you can do!!!
The key is to think about why we are using it…
The section which l enjoyed most was displayed
by Amiris Del Carmen Helena it was
titled ¨how to have fun in class come break the ice and check in¨ in this
section she exposed some tricks to help teachers to meet students in the first
day of class, the participants perform some activities to check in.
check in
means how we are going to manage our class.
An ice breaker is an activity to learn about
each other, a way to introduce a topic that students have not seen…
